Soaking Up Family Traditions On Christmas...

I love Christmas. But, I haven't always loved the family traditions.

I remember as a kid, just waiting for the presents, and hating everything that delayed opening them. We would eat. Boy, would we eat. Then came the old-folks talking for what seemed like ages. Then came the Christmas story. Then more old people talking, and usually some crying. We'd sing happy birthday to Jesus. Then finally... well, then they would talk some more. Then... THE PRESENTS. I hate to brag, but I think I'm the best present unwrapper ever. Just saying.

But, as I get older, I'm starting to cherish the tradition. I'm starting to enjoy the talking. I'm beginning to love my Grandmother reading the Christmas story. And, there may be a tear or seven running down my cheek. But, my favorite part? Singing happy birthday to Jesus. I know it may seem silly. I mean, as a kid, I would giggle through it. But, I love it. 15 or so people, young and old, just singing our hearts out to Jesus as we celebrate His birth. I look around and see my Grandparents, parents, and other family acting as if they were at a childhood friend's birthday party. That's my family. I'm thankful for them,

I'm thankful for my family. I'm starting to realize that they may not always be here. And, so as I soak the tradition up, I also soak them up. My MawMaw loves that Christmas story. My PawPaw loves teasing us grandchildren. My mom loves sharing a recent testimony. My aunts/uncles love to see all of us as their own sons and daughters. My brothers? They love giving me a hard time.

Soak the tradition up. But, soak up the ones you enjoy it with even more. They won't always be there, but cherish them while they are. Even the ones that get on your nerves. If they weren't there? It wouldn't be the same.

"But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."

Acts 20:24 (NLT)

5 years can seem like a millennium or be gone in a flash. I don't know how I would describe the last 5 years of my life.

5 years ago, I was hooked on girls, drugs, and attention. Fooling around, obsessed with wearing $60 dollar jeans, and self-promotion pretty much summed up my life. 5 years ago, I was worried about if she was pregnant or if my book bag would get searched at school.

5 years ago, Jesus came and got me. This week marks 5 years since Jesus gave this tin-man a new heart, and turned my life into His life.

I can remember the morning like it was yesterday. It was cold. It was really cold. I'd been battling with the Holy Spirit for 2 years. I was miserable, and searching for an answer that I already knew. I knew that the best thing to do was turn to Christ. But, I didn't want to. I wanted to hold on to my life, and live it the way I wanted to. But, Jesus had other plans. I walked into church, Hermon Baptist, with a heavy heart. And, I walked out with a new one. When the altar call was given, I knew what had to take place. I had to quit fighting. I had to quit running. I looked at my girlfriend, knowing she was totally against it. I looked at my family, knowing some of them wouldn't believe it. But, it was time. Christ came and got me...then He drug me all the way to the altar.

I can honestly say that these past 5 years have been the best years of my life. It was scary, and still is. But, God walks with me daily. It is only by His grace that I'm still in the race. It's only by His grace that He called me. And, it's only by His grace if He chooses to use me. I'm thankful for all He has done and will continue to do.

I'm the chief of all sinners, and if God can use me, He can use anybody. You running? Your putting it off? Is God calling you to a new life in Him? What is your response? Maybe God is calling you to step up and be a leader in your church/youth group. Maybe God wants you to hold a bible study in your living room. Maybe God wants you to simply share the love of Jesus with a coworker tomorrow. Maybe He's calling you to be a missionary over seas, be a preacher, or mentor a new believer.

God has a calling on your life. Seek it first. I know you have your life planned out. I did too. But, Jesus has a better plan for you. God's will isn't always the easiest, but it is the best. Walk His way. Don't run from Him.

All glory to KING JESUS.

Loving Others When You Want to Punch Them In The Throat...

Yes, I said it. There are times when I want to punch people in the throat. You caught me.

But, as a Christian, it would be best for me to do otherwise. Christ has called me to more than that, and my Christian witness would probably be ruined by the witness of my fist left on their jugular.

"Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters."
Heb 13:1 (NLT)

I have brothers. We argue. We fight. We have thrown pillows, shoes, and tantrums of every sort. We have bloodied noses. And, one brother even knocked a tooth of mine out of my mouth and across the living room. But, you let someone make fun of me. You let someone try to intimidate me, and my brothers will come to the rescue. That is love.

Today, I wanted to punch a someone in the throat. They insulted me. They took a bite of french fry, and then threw the crumbs into my face. Boy, I wanted to hand her about 10 karate chops. But, I couldn't. Not because she was bigger than me. Not because I was scared. But, because I knew the spiritual repercussions. I would have darkened the name of Christ in her mind forever. She gave me a chance to respond in anger, but, by responding in grace, a door to witness was left open. She may never apologize. She may never get saved. But, a lack of love on my part won't be the reason.

Before punching someone in the throat remember whats at stake. People's hearts and thoughts about Christ are on the line. What will they see if you go off on them like a spider monkey? Not Christ. Will you have to fight your anger to keep your witness? Yes. Will you have to swallow your pride? Yes. But, what if God uses the grace that you use to open their heart for His grace?

Remember who you are, and who's you are, before punching someone in the throat.

Chan on how the church is and what it the bible says it should be...

What is the church supposed to be? What are we supposed to be doing? What is to be our passion? Is Jesus the center of it all? Are we willing to change and move forward? Are we more concerned with our pride and tradition or people and Jesus?

Watch this helpful video. It's long, but good. Show your church leaders.

Pouring It All Out...

"Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance."
John 12:3 (NLT)

Mary wasn't rich, and perfume wasn't cheap. But, for some reason she chose to pour out the bottle on the feet of Jesus, so much that the house was full of its fragrance.

Why?

Jesus Is Worthy.

So often we value our lives as Mary's critics valued the perfume. Judas clinched his fist at Mary. He could have sold the perfume and served the poor, or even better, served himself. "Mary could have used it on herself", some of the local women may have said. Why waste such a fragrance of the feet of man? They did not understand. They did get that Mary wasn't only pouring out her perfume, but she was pouring out her life in front of Jesus in gratitude. She took hold of His grace, and let it flow into every part of her life. This was her worship.

Are we worshiping this freely? Are we this thankful? Are we willing to pour it all out for Christ?

If we pour out our lives for the cause of Christ, I trust that He is faithful to fill us back up. He is faithful to fill us with an awe for Him. He will fill us up with a joy that overflows into the lives of others. He will fill us up with a satisfaction in Him that points to a life free of searching for fulfillment. He will fill us up with His grace. And, we are to pour it all out in service for Him again. This is how we are to worship.

So, where are you pouring your life?

Your life is going to a cause, but is it a worthy one? Many pour their days into xbox, studying, or a job that pulls them away from their family. Many pour their lives into their child's little league baseball career. Some have fallen into the trap of wasting away their lives by searching for attention and approval from their friends and coworkers.

But, only One is worthy of our lives, and His name is Jesus. How will you spend your life today?

One Sign of A Spiritually Dead Life

When you are sick there are symptoms. If these symptoms are serious enough to alarm you, a visit to your Doctor's office is likely. There your Doctor will check you out, or examine you. He does this to find the source of your symptoms. He examines you to find the real sickness. He does this so that you can begin to heal and get well.

We often need a spiritual exam much like a trip to the Doctor.

The Sickness: Spiritual Death/Life Apart From Christ

A Symptom: Fitting in with the world

Treatment: A true connection with Christ through faith, and realizing your new identity in Him

Funny, the way it is...

Somethings just make since.

Red goes with white, and blue.
Shoes go with socks.
Toys go with happy meals.
Hats go with bald men.
Ketchup goes with fries.(Ranch goes with everything)
Friends go with family.
"Bless-you's" go with sneezes.
Goodbyes go with kisses and I love you's.

But, what went with Jesus when He left this world? Did he give out a couple of awkward hugs and then ascend. Did he remind Peter to stick to the hymnal? Did Jesus say, "James, my brother, push Sunday School to the church like medicine to a 5 year old."

No. It's kind of funny when we think about it. A lot of things that we make a big deal, Jesus seems to forget as He gives His last words. Not saying hymnals are sin, and Sunday school is a waste, but they were not in the top one of importance. What was?

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”9 After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him."
Acts 1:8-9 (NLT)

Wow, knowing Jesus and sharing Jesus must have been a pretty big deal to Jesus...

Like Pumpkins and Fall, Jesus and sharing Jesus just makes sense. Let's keep the main thing, the main thing.

Who's Yo Daddy?

Certain things run in certain families. Some are known for height, whether they are extremely tall or extremely small. Some are known for their personalities or humor. But, wherever or whomever you come from, there will be a slight resemblance.

Think about your dad. Anything in common? His bumpy nose, big ears, or the fact that you sound like a freight train when you sleep? The chances are that in some way you look like your dad. You make talk like him, or have a similar way of walking. Whatever it is, there are signs that he is your daddy.

So, question: Are there any signs in your life that show you to be a child of God? Any resemblances between you and your creator? No, I'm not asking if you wear a robe, or if you have ever walked on water. Here's a verse that may help us understand...

"You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own."
Lev 20:26 (NLT)

If we truly belong to God, won't we resemble Him? Won't we follow His model? Won't we walk His way? The Bible seems to say that we should, and will.

The way we look, or live rather, says something about who belong too. So, represent well. As a believer, you have been CHOSEN to be a personal representative of King Jesus. So when you say, "I'm a Christian", people see Christ. If they see you living like a joke, they see Jesus as joke. But, what if they see you as loving? They see Jesus as loving. What if they see you as "true-blue"? They see Jesus as the real-deal. So, be holy for He is holy. Here's a quote that I heard from my mom before I went out with friends while growing up...

"Remember who you are, and more importantly, whose you are!"

Christian, remember who you belong to. Rep Him well.

More Than Dress Up

"Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God."
Romans 6:13(NLT)

Every Sunday members of a local church wake up, and get dressed. Maybe they wear a tie, or maybe they wear a t-shirt. Maybe slacks, or maybe shorts. Maybe heels, "dress" shoes, or flip-flops. They walk out of their home, hop in the car, and head to church. Once there, they find "their" place on a pew. They sing a few songs, pray a few prayers, listen to a sermon, and maybe, if they're feeling brave, kneel at the altar. Then, they walk out the back door. They walk out unchanged. Yes, they did do their weekly duties. Yes, they did show up with a smile and put a $20 in the plate. But, in their heart? They just played dress up.

Many that attend weekly services check that service off their weekly to-do list. They go home, put on something more comfortable, and forget about God as they dip into a deep sleep. And, I don't mean that nap in your recliner.

We see all through the Bible that God calls us to more than this. He calls us to more than a few songs, and an altar call. He calls us to more than a 10th of our earnings. He calls us to more than a Sunday School breakfast. Yes, He calls us to more than dress up.

We see in Romans 6 that we are called to a life that is free from sin by relying on Christ. And, in the 13th verse, we see that we are to respond by living that life. We see that the Christian life is not to be a fraction of our whole life. We shouldn't respond to God's grace by only giving Him 1/4 or 33% of our life. No, we are called to more than that.

God has a plan. And, we as the church, have been to called be used as an instrument to achieve that plan. Last time I checked, half a pair of pliers isn't worth much. In Romans 6:13, we are called to respond to God's life-giving grace by giving up that life for His use and glory.

If all you have for Jesus is one day a week, bed-time prayers, or some Sunday clothes...Keep'em. Jesus doesn't want your tie. Jesus wants you. All of you. Jesus is calling us to more than dress up.

A Privilege Neglected

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20(NLT)

The Great Commission is a privilege.

The verse above is known as the Great Commission. The great commision is one of the first things Jesus told his disciples after He died on the cross to pay for the world's sin by swallowing the wrath of His Holy Father. It was one of the last things that He told His disciples before departing from earth and asending into heaven. This commision or sending was to be the mission of these 11 men. It is also to be the mission of all those who proclaim Christ as Lord of their lives. He was telling them to tell about Him. He commanded and commissioned them, and us, to make His name famous among the nations. They were to tell their families, friends, and their community, and the world that Jesus died for them and that He was alive. They were to share that He had the power to free them of their sin and that He had the power to give them a new life with Him.

The world was lost and dying like it is today. People had a deep need to be forgiven and freed like they do today. People, both young and old, were dying without a saving faith in Jesus like they are today. This is why Jesus came. This is why the disciples were sent. This is why this Great Commision is still sending all true believers today. People are dying without a Savior, and we have been given the privilege of sharing the message of Life with them. Oh, what a privilege it is.

Last Thursday at about 12 noon a group left from Waxhaw and headed to Brasil for 12 days. Their goal was not to have fun and see sights. Their trip was not a vacation. But, they went to take Jesus to people who had never heard of Him. They went to share The Truth and The Life with people that knew no truth, and have no life worth living. As we prayed a prayer of commision, I began to weep. I had family and friends going, but that is not why I cried. I cried because God pressed upon my heart how big of a privilege it is to take Life to the lifeless. I will miss my loved ones for these 12 days, but that is not why my chin shivered. My cheeks were tear striped because I was not going to share the Truth with those people with them. It is a privilege. A privilege not just for overseas mission trips, but a privilege right here in Waxhaw, Lancaster, and Charlotte. A privilege for my house, my work, and my school. People are dying without Christ, and He has given His followers the privilege of seeing others know Him. Oh, what a privilege it is.

A Privilege Neglected

My fear is that many of us, including myself, do not always see this as a privilege. We sometimes see it as a chore. We may see it as something that our preacher or youth pastor talk about sometimes. And, many just see it a the preachers job, or something that "super Christians" do. This is rubbish. This is a sin probably as "big" as any other. It has just as much of a consequence as any other. Those people that we don't tell, will never be told.

When is the last time that you shared Jesus with a friend? When is the last time that you stepped out of that comfort zone and served as a bridge between people and Jesus? When is the last time that you cried over what Christ has done for you? When was the last time that your life showed that you belong to Jesus?

A Christian t-shirt is not enough. A facebook status is not enough. Attending church or a bible study is not the only thing that Christ is calling you to. I don't know if you know this or not, but the Gospel that is personal enough to save your soul should be personal enough to change your life. It is peronal enough to change the way that you see people. The Gospel is not something to hide. But, it is a privilege that we are to shout and share.

Are you neglecting the greatest privilege known to man?

The Gospel?

Maybe you say you don't know it well enough to share it. 2 things here: 1.Why do you trust in something to save you that you don't even know well enough to share? 2. Its simple. Don't let words, people, or guilt discourage you.
Here is a simple 4 point Gospel that anyone could share.

  1. God is good.
  2. People are not.
  3. Jesus is the answer, and calls us to repentence and new life.
  4. We must respond in faith.

I urge you to know it, live it, and share it. Who and where is God sending you to? Your family? Yes. Your friends? Yes. Your coworkers? Yes. The world? Yes. Now, Go!

People Matter.

We were all created. We will all die. Whether we die young, or live to be old, we will expire. Most would say that this truth proves a conclusion that says "time matters." However, I think that the bible teaches that, more than time, people matter.

"But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NLT)

We will expire. So how do we make it count? We don't try to make as many memories as possible, because they will be forgotten, or, in essence, die. We don't run out and stock up on milk and bread like the 2nd great depression is coming. No. We are to love. We are to invest ourselves in what matters. That is not time, memories, or something that will delay an inevitable ending. We are to invest ourselves in the lives of people. They matter.

I once heard Paul Washer say, "I am to preach as a dying man to dying men."

This quote has made an impression on my heart. It reminds me that I am to live with an extreme since of urgency. I am to do this, because I am dying and others around me are dying. And, if they die without knowing Jesus as Lord, they will not rest for all eternity. But, they will labor in hell. This is to drive us. People that God loves, and that God commands us to love, are dying without knowing God's love. This is horrific. The fields are white for the harvest. Where are the Lord's workers?

The Holy Spirit is teaching me more and more that people matter. People were the reason Christ came. People were the reason that Christ died. I'm not to forget this. Jesus remembered me. I am to remember others. I'm not only to remember them during prayer request time in Sunday School. I'm not to only remember them when they get sick. No. Christ has called me to be a missionary in my home, and in my community. Jesus has called us to more than just saying, "I'll pray for you." Christ has called us to GO and DO. (Matthew 28:16-20/James 1:22)

My challenge today is this: Pick someone today, and pour your life into theirs.

What do I mean by this? Find someone, anyone, who needs to know the love of Jesus. Then, do whatever it takes for that person to know the love of Jesus. This may be risky. It may cost you gas money or time. It cost Jesus his life on the cross. It may be frustrating. They may not get it quickly. Jesus prayed that God the Father forgive them anyway. People matter to Jesus. So, they should matter to you.

"We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters."
1 John 3:16

Stamp of Approval

Just want to encourage you a bit.

The world, your family, and your friends all have expectations for your life. Don't expect to meet everyone of them. And, the world is not over when you don't.

Why is the world not over when you fail to meet man's expectations? Christians don't live for man's approval.

Let that take some weight off your shoulders.

Take joy in this. Listen, Christ took our sin on the cross, and gave us His righteousness. We now live for His approval. And, if we are in Him, we have it. As a Christian, you are a saint who is set apart for the purposes of God. You are no longer under the burdens of ordinary men and women. You are a slave set free. We believers are no longer chained and restrained by man and sin. But, we are set free to live pure and productive lives for God's glory.

So what, you may need to use table of contents when you first start reading your bible. The man who looks down on you for it needs to quit looking at you and look at the words in it.

You are a new creation. You are set apart as pure and holy servants. Let's not pridefully seek the approval of man. Let's focus our eyes on Jesus. Let's seek to please and glorify Him.

A Gift That the World Cannot Give

"I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid."
John 14:27 (NLT)

BOOM! CRASH! zing... SmAsH! crunch. BAM!! smoooosh...

Those are the sounds of what the world gives. Business, worry, calamity fill our mind. There is so much to do, and there is so little time. There is loss in every pocket. And, the buildings in our hearts fall to the ground. This is what the world has to offer. This is what you'll get. And, those sounds will be the sounds that echo from your life.

But...
those things are not what Jesus gives. Though with Christ, everything isn't always peaches and cream, you can expect faithfulness. You can expect wholeness. And, you can expect a consistent peace.

The disciples were about to see their Lord leave. They were about to see the man they had given their lives to die a brutal death. But, Jesus said not to worry.

Many times in life we face discouraging circumstances. We will see what seems to be all of our hope die, much like what the disciples were about to see. But, God knows what is on the other side of that circumstance and gives us a gift of peace to endure that circumstance. Jesus knew that it would be tough. But, He also knew that He would rise from the dead three days later.

Whatever hole you are in, and whatever doubt you are facing, know that you are not alone. Christ, Lord of all creation, is with you. Christ, Lord of all creation, has a plan. Christ, Lord of all creation, is in control.

So, don't worry. Instead, grasp on to the truth of Christ. Take hold of the peace that only Christ can give. Don't run out into the world looking to "drink your fill" or get a quick fix. There is only one fix, there is only one Prince of Peace, and His name is Jesus.

Nebraska coach takes stand for Faith, and against homosexuality.

I just read this artile on espn.com

Proud that we have brothers all over who are taking a stand. This guy is using a God-given position to spread the God inspired Word. Thankful.

Check it out by clicking the link, and remember that our faith demands a stand. No stand means no faith.

Proof to the World.

"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."
John 13:34-35 (NLT)

We tell the world that our God loves them. They want proof. We are called to be the proof.

Jesus came to seek and save those who are lost. He came to find, and heal the sick. He came searching for those who are needy. He came to die for the world because of His love.

As believers, we seem to talk a big talk. We answer the Sunday school questions, and we know John 3:16 by heart. But, my question is, do we live it? Do we live the answers to the questions about God? Do we live out the love that we talk about in the 3rd chapter of John?

I think the world is tired of us talking. They are tired of our Christian t-shirts being the only Christian things about us. Yes, if you love them, they may push you away. When I was lost, a man chose to love me. I hated him. I wanted him to leave me alone. I even thought about burning his house down. But, he kept loving me. And, eventually his walk, not his talk, showed me Jesus.

I would also say that if you don't share it, you probably don't have it. The love of God is not something that can be contained. It is not a light that can be snuffed out. Don't be selfish. If you are loved by God, which you are, be a filter. The question is not if you are loved by God. The question is if you have accepted that love, and letting it flow through you. If God's love is water, we are called to be a spout.

Application:

Who has God put in your path to love? Who have you been passing by that needs to know Jesus?

Love them. Take them out to lunch, or simply smile and ask them how things are going. Give them a complement, say God bless, or offer to babysit for that single mom. The options are countless. God has given us so many ways to act out the love that He has given us. By showing this Christ-like love, you will have an opportunity to share the Gospel. Don't forget the Gospel of Christ. Sharing it is one of the most loving things you can do, and it cannot be forgotten.

Love today. Be the proof of God's love.

Running to Safety.

"The name of the LORD is a strong fortress;
the godly run to him and are safe."
Proverbs 18:10 (NLT)

This isn't a blog to make you happy. I've never blogged on 13 ways to be prosperous, or six reasons Jesus wants you to be rich.

Life is tough. Turning your life over to Jesus doesn't make every problem or struggle disappear. Anyone who tells you that it will is a liar, and preaches to please man, and not God.

Christianity is not following God so that you can be rich. Following Jesus does not come with being on the mountain top %100 of the time. But, that is the joy of Christianity. It is knowing that when you are in the valley, the One who made that valley is in it with you.

It is a joy to know that, as a believer, we don't walk the road alone. We no longer fight our fights, and we always have a home.

Have you ever been insulted or heart-broken? I have. And, it's awesome to know that when we are in  that situation, we have somewhere to run.

As a kid I would often play at the neighbors house across the road. There were several kids over there so we would all get together and find ways to drive their mom crazy. I remember one time, when I was real young, we got in an argument. It was probably over who was playing with which action figure or something else super important. I got upset, and my feelings were hurt. The big baby I was, I dropped all I had with me and ran home. I felt safe, and it was a getaway from the fight. As believers, we have somewhere to run. Not to our house. Not to our spouse/family members. But, to our daddy in heaven. In His arms, and to His embrace can we run.

What's weighing your heart down? Go to your room, shut the door, and get on your knees. Get away from all distractions, and run to your daddy in prayer. Pour out your heart, confess your sin, and trust that God is in control. Give it all up. Quit fighting. Let Christ fight for you. This requires letting the walls around your heart fall. This means breaking your pride. And, it may include you admitting the wrong you have done. But, it also includes peace. It includes a Light. It includes an escape. It includes a Hope. His name is Jesus.

That Is Enough For Me

Jesus replied, "Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life."

John 4:13-14(NLT)

Jesus was talking to a thirsty woman. She needed water. But, she was also thirsty for much more. She was thirsty for joy. She was thirsty for a life worth living. She was thirsty was a satisfying relationship. She was thirsty for more than an ordinary drinking well could offer.

Jesus then offered something that would fulfill her need. It would quench her thirst. He called it living water. It would give her true life. What was this living water?

HIMSELF.

We see throughout all of scripture that true life's definition is Jesus. He is referred to as The Bread of Life, and The Resurrection and The Life. We see that this woman sought life in other places than this well. She went from relationship to relationship seeking fulfillment. She knew some about religion, but that also did her no good. The one thing she was lacking was Jesus. That is why we see her broken and thirsty. Jesus is the only one who can fill the gaping hole in our hearts.

I've had a lot, done a lot, and seen a lot. But, none of it even comes close to my Jesus. From popularity and pride to sex and alcohol nothing satisfied me. But, then I met Christ. He washed away my past, and now holds my future. I went from thinking I had friends to having a true friend. I went from empty fellowship to fellowship with the King Himself.

So drink The Living Water, and live for Christ. Sure, people with laugh. Sure, you will be insulted. Yes, your trophies will need to be laid down. All of this has happened and, by God's grace, it will continue to happen. So called "friends" will be lost, jokes will be made, and the road will look lonely. But, it's all worth it. Christ will satisfy.

It may seem like I have lost the world, and indeed I have, but a life spent in The King's courts is good enough for me. My past has been washed away, and my future rests in the hands of The Almighty. That is good enough for me. My thirst has been quenched, and my life has been bought in blood. That is good enough for me. Thankful that Christ is my friend. Fellowship with The King is enough for me.

Are you thirsty? Are you continually searching for satisfaction?
Drink of Christ, and be satisfied. Everything else is worthless.

"ALL ABOUT JESUS!"

I have posted this song before. It is one of my favorites. The fact that Jesus is enough reminded me of it. Let it bless you.

Reality Check!

REALITY CHECK!

There are different realities that we must face in life. How we face these realities are in direct correlation with who we are. I am about to give you 3 reality checks. Who are you, and how will you face them?

1.You Will Die.

Unless you are taken up in the rapture (believers only) with Jesus before hand, you will die. This is reality. Your days are numbered.

I remember when I was about 14. I had no thoughts about dying. I was invincible in my mind. I was bullet proof. I lived with no regrets. But, also with no purpose. It was all about me, and I had no sense of urgency for things that mattered. I had no idea that one day I was going to die, so I lived as if I had forever to accomplish things. Knowing little, and doing nothing. I was wrong. I will die. So will you.

It is time that we come to this realization. This isn't a call to fear, but a call to faith. This is a reality, and we will face it whether we want too or not. Ask the man in the casket.

2. You Must Choose to Live.

Just because you will die doesn't mean you have lived. That slash between your date of birth and date of death can be just a slash. Life isn't a default. Life is a choice. You have to make that slash between the dates on your gravestone mean something.

So what does choosing to live mean? It means not going through the motions. It means having a purpose bigger than yourself. It means leaning on the tree on Mount Calvary. It means not being satisfied with the words "only", "just", "decent", or "okay." It means living with a passion.

Make the choice. The choice to live has a lot to do with the last reality.
John Piper wrote a book titled "Don't Waste Your Life." Read it.

3. Jesus Is Life.

You choose to live by following Jesus. You choose to live by chasing after life.

Reality is anything outside of Jesus is death. Anyone outside of Christ is dead. Signs of true life are not heart beats, or jumping from planes. A true sign of life is passionately celebrating the life of Christ. A true sign of life is fleshing out your faith. James, the brother of Jesus, said for us to be doers of the word. (James 1:22) That is living life. Live Jesus!

Are you being realistic? Do you know Jesus?

It is time.

Hot Wings and Jesus

I love chicken wings! Really, I do.

Me feasting on some "Jammin' Jalapeno" wings from Buffalo Wild Wings.

Tuesday Nights have been dubbed "wing night" at several local places. I love it. Great wings, and decent prices.

There is something that most of these venues have in common: TV's! (I enjoy them too, just ask Taylor) On most of these TV's are games. The biggest games of the night are being shown to this packed out restaurant. Most of the people come with jerseys on which signifies the fact that they are most likely sports fans. They call the boys up, throw their Derrick Rose threads on, and get to eating. As a huge sports fan I kinda see it as a celebration. You celebrate your friends, the food, and your sports teams. At any given moment one section of the place is prone to erupt because a made basket or missed field goal. I love it!

We see Levi (Matthew) call some of his boys up to celebrate like this in Luke 5. They all probably strapped on their "Jerusalem cruisers" and headed right over to their buddies house for a feast. When they got their they realized that it wasn't about "Bethlehem barbecue" or the latest gladiator battle. They were there to celebrate Jesus. The bible says that Levi invited Jesus as the "Guest of Honor." Levi was being all about Jesus.

Now, this isn't to bash get-togethers or sports. You can see me enjoying myself in the picture above! But, what if we celebrated Jesus like we do the other things that we love? What if we invited friends over, started relationships, or just lived life in general with the specific purpose of celebrating Jesus?

1. Joy would abound.
I leave the wing place "full".... My stomach and my heart. If we were full of Christ, wouldn't it be that much better?

2. Relationships would be strengthened.
These times will bring you closer to fellow believers. I know when I jump up and down with the boys we're screaming together. Won't it be the same for those who are "rooting for" Christ?

3. New relationships will be made.
People will see your excitement. They will want to be on winning team too. It's probable that the guys Levi invited were lost. Also, just like sports fans, you will have your doubters. Don't be discouraged. Jesus and Levi had plenty of those.

And, by the way, doesn't Jesus deserve more attention and celebration than sports teams or food? The bible says so. He is THE KING, not Lebron James.

To be ALL ABOUT JESUS, we must celebrate Jesus.

To Those Struggling with Homosexuality, and Their Family Members

Love is not tolerating someones sin. But, Love includes passionately desiring a change of heart in someone who desperately needs it.

This blog isn't just for believers. I'm writing this with love for the lost. I'm writing this with a burden for those who are struggling with homosexuality and their families.

Tonight in class we had a discussion about homosexuality, our culture, and the fact that we as Christians need to make a stand for our beliefs. The conversation hit me pretty hard. We as the Church need to take action. We need to take a stand. That stand needs be on the word of God. We also need to take action by confronting our culture with love and truth. We need to take a personal interest in people. We need to build loving relationships, while at the same time confronting those around us with the truth of the Gospel.

To those who are struggling with homosexuality.....Know that you are loved by God. Know that He wants to adopt you into His family. He wants to set you free from the bondage of this sin, and every other. Know that I am actively praying for you tonight. It is 12:43am and I will not go to bed before lifting you up to God in prayer. I pray that you will have a collision with the grace of God, and that we will all grow closer to Christ.

Those who are close to or even family members to someone struggling with homosexuality, I'm also praying for/with you. The first question is, do you know Christ? And, if you do, are you being a missionary into your family member's life? I hope to partner with you in this.

Tonight my professor referenced a few websites that may help those struggling with this issue. They are listed below. I hope and pray that you visit them. I hope and pray that you seek Christ.

Also, here is a site I hope all you believers will visit, and take action. Vote by May 8th to save marriage. Tell your Pastor, and fellow believers so that we may keep the religious freedoms that we have.

A Wealth of Poverty

"Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life." Proverbs 1:19

Forget everything else, chase that dollar, and lose your life.

A big issue in this world is that we have a jacked up definition of "Life". So many today see life as something that you earn or buy. They see it as a piece of merchandise or something with a price tag. If you do, you are most likely saying "I don't do that" right now.

Its hard not too view life this way. Everywhere we look there is an advertisement. The majority of us have always heard that we should do more and work harder so that we can make much and have more. Don't mistake me. Money isn't bad. It's not wrong to work. But, it is wrong to allow your job to work you. It is wrong for your money to make you.

What is life?

Jesus!

"Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying."
John 11:25 (NLT)

Money isn't the problem. Greed is. Money being your life is the issue. Making money your God, and unconsciously or consciously prioritizing money over Jesus is the issue.

The fact that the Word says if you make money your life, you're gonna lose it should be warning enough. The thing that gets me is that money isn't worthy of all of our attention. Why worship something that we have to make? Why serve something that can run out? Money is man-made. God is the I AM. He wasn't created. He is CREATOR. Money can run out, and you can go broke. Jesus is eternal. He is now and forever. And, unlike money, Jesus is satisfying. You don't come up needing more. With Jesus you have all need.

Those Jet-ski's? Their good and fun. But, you can't ride them into eternity.

Don't be "all about da money." Be "ALL ABOUT JESUS!"

In The Tomb (Waiting)

"45 The officer confirmed that Jesus was dead, so Pilate told Joseph he could have the body.46 Joseph bought a long sheet of linen cloth. Then he took Jesus' body down from the cross, wrapped it in the cloth, and laid it in a tomb that had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone in front of the entrance."
Mark 15:45-46(NLT)

You've got to believe that some of the Christians thought is was all over when He was pronounced dead.
You've got to know that there was doubt in the minds of some disciples when HE breathed His last.
There had to be disappointment in John the beloved's heart when he saw them take Him off of the cross.
Mary had reason to question when she saw them roll the stone in front of His tomb.

So many times in life I have thought that it was over. So many times I have faithlessly looked at life's circumstances and saw no sign of hope. I can only imagine how Jesus' followers felt when seeing Him die. The man who they had believed in seemed to be done. They had never thought that this day would actually come. They had seen Him feed 5,000+. They saw Him raise Lazarus. Jesus, dead? Could it be true? Was it all over?

No.

The time between His death and resurrection must have been the loneliest time of most of the disciples lives. But, it wasn't over. He did die. But, He wouldn't stay dead. We must remember that, In Christ, it is never over. We must have it written in our hearts that we, as believers, have a living Savior living in us! Though it seemed to be over for Jesus, it wasn't! Three days later He would ARISE!

Believer, remember that it is never over for those who find their hope in Christ. No matter how lonely, dark, or disappointing your path may seem, you have a Light walking the tunnel WITH you. No matter how far away you think you are, Christ is close. Christ is alive. Christ is forever.

JESUS IS KING! JESUS IS ALIVE!

FOR US (Good Friday)

"But He was pierced for our rebellion,
crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed."
Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

Last night I sat and watched  The Passion of The Christ. With me was Taylor, my girlfriend, and Matthew, my 9 yr old little brother. This movie is what it is called, passionate.

Jesus passionately prayed in the garden as He sweat bullets of blood.
Jesus compassionately placed the soldiers ear back where it belonged.
Jesus passionately sought after His Father's will.
Jesus passionately took being beaten with rods.
Jesus passionately took being whipped with whips of glass and rock.
Jesus walked passionate steps as He carried our cross to Calvary.
Jesus died a passionate death as He poured out His life and was nailed to that tree.

But, what struck me this most?

IT WAS FOR US!

This wasn't just a movie. These were real events. Jesus was a real man, who was also God. He was really beaten. Real nails went through His real hands. And, yes, His real body arose from a real grave.....

and it was all for us!

That's the glory of the Gospel. The God of the universe sending His Son for our rescue. His Son paying our ransom. Its universal in the fact that He died for all, but its personal in the fact that He died just for you. Each whip, nail, and drop of blood was for you. What should have been us, was Him. He took our place.

For Him?

Realizing this must make us think. We must go further than teary eyes and a tossed stomach. Remembering Christ's cross and suffering confronts us with the question: Do we know Jesus personally? Have we given up our old life and are we living THE NEW LIFE with Jesus? Is our old life dead, on the cross, and have we been resurrected with Jesus?

Breakfast With A Brother

I love breakfast. If you could see me, you would be able to tell. I love eating breakfast at a place in downtown Monroe, NC called The Palace. I get the same thing over and over again. They have liver mush, and they will deep fry it if you ask. I always ask:)

But, the best part of my weekly visit to the Palace is not the deep-fried liver mush. It is the brother with whom I share the meal. He has been a brother, second dad, and mentor. He is my accountability partner. I go to the table each week with all my junk, and unload. It makes for a full plate. But, we don't just unload our baggage. We talk about our Savior. We discuss what Jesus is doing, and how He is always faithful to finish any work that He begins.

"As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend."
Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

Who are you having breakfast with? Maybe its not a meal. Maybe its a coffee at starbucks once a week. Maybe its meeting early or staying late. Maybe its being a good host to a friend inside of your home. But, make sure that its happening. Make sure to seek a brother or sister who is IN Christ that will pour themselves into your life and that you can do the same to them. My brother, and mentor, Larry Underwood has taught me that this is part of discipleship. Discipleship is one man/lady pouring their life into another in a way that is totally Gospel centered.

Seek someone. It will take some effort and rearranging of your schedule. But, it's worth it.

Christianity is relationship based, not religion based. It is all based off of the relationship that we have have with Jesus. I'm convinced that when we have this relationship and understand the Gospel that it will flow into every other relationship that we have.

Get a brother/sister, and get sharp.

Using and Abusing (God Given Talent)

God has granted you with gifts from above. God has blessed you with talents to fine-tune. He has given you abilities and a heart than no one else has...

BUT...

Sometimes I struggle to see this. Often times, I will neglect my God-given gifts and harp on my failures. When I do this, I tend to use my weakness as a excuse to sit on the sideline. When I do this, what I'm really doing is refusing to use the gifts that God gave me to carry out His will.

Don't be afraid. Don't cower away from God-given opportunities to fine-tune God-given talent. I am of the opinion that God is doing something huge, and I am of the belief that He is wanting to use us. He doesnt need us, but He wants us. We are not necesarry, but we are desired. Don't miss out.

Using

What gifts has God given you? USE THEM!

My bestfriend Taylor got me an IPod for Christmas. I love it. I play it when I'm at home, in the car, and at the gym. I enjoy it. She cared enough to pick it out, buy it, and give it to me. I don't have any trouble using it. I wish I was this way with God's gifts.

I wish I would use them everywhere I went. I wish I would use them even if someone makes me mad and pulls out in front of me on the highway. I wish I would value others enough to share what God has blessed me with.

God has given these gifts to bring glory to His name. He took time to perfect you in your mothers' womb to bring attention to His face. We need to use our gifts to show others HIS GRACE. These gifts are in you, for HIS USE.

ABUSE

We abuse God-given gifts by refusing to use them, or by using them the wrong way.

Some of us are just lazy and selfish. Some of us hear God's call, but we resist. We hate the idea of moving. We would rather let our talents go to waste than stand up and use what Christ has already done for us. My mom used to say this all the time and I hated it, but Mama knew what she was talking about...
"If you dont use it, then you'll lose it"- My mothers' response to my lasiness in school
Don't be a sloth. There is no sitting on the fence, or the branch.

God gave you gifts for His glory. Not yours. He didn't give you gifts for you to boast or become prideful. He didn't give me gifts so that I could puff up my chest. He gave me gifts so that I could, by His grace and help, effectively love others and show them how awesome the one true God is. Sure, your cool, but not as cool as Jesus. Just saying.

Use the gifts that God has placed in you, but dont abuse them.

Curve-ball:
Here is a little bit of encouragement for your walk. I recently started praying for some folks in and around my life. I have found out that it has opened doors to be educated in their lives, and it may have helped me grow just as much as anything else. Pick someone in your life. Pray for them specifically everyday. Let them know after the first day of making this commitment. Stick to it and grow together. You never know the impact that lifting up someone to the Lord could make.....Ready, set, go!
